News of the week is that Dunham Massey has been shortlisted for the 2015 Museum of the Year. The prestigious Art Fund Prize will be awarded on 1 July, identifying the finest museum in the UK.
The current exhibition Sanctuary from the Trenches has been running from March 2014 and has seen visitor numbers soar since its installation. The exhibition takes us back to the First World War and seeks to recreate the Stamford Military Hospital, a sanctuary from the trenches for almost 300 soldiers.
Take a walk through the exhibition and our printed signage and display graphics will lead you across seven set rooms filled with several hundred artefacts from Dunham’s archives, as well as items that we helped reproduce to replicate the ward as it once was. We printed vinyl onto mugs, bedpans and chairs, and printed first person quotes directly to a variety of materials that made sheets, pillowcases, socks, ties and kit bags that all helped to recreate the scenes from the operating theatre, nurses’ station, and other spaces used by the wounded troops and nurses in 1917-1918. We also produced the replica solider log book, the sheet music for the piano, and various other objects that you will see featured in this short film by the BBC.
To create a truly immersive and theatrical First World War experience, actors have also been brought in to the exhibit to re-tell stories of the patients and nurses so visitors can gain a deeper understanding of what life was really like.
Once again we've proudly collaborated with exhibit designers Outside Studios to create this incredible Dunham Massey Hall exhibition in Cheshire that was set up to commemorate the centenary of the First World War. It will be running until Wednesday until 11 November 2015 so we recommend you go pay a visit - fingers crossed for Dunham Massey to take home the prize for most outstanding museum in the UK for 2015!
